An
affinity card is a branded
credit card that is co-issued by a bank and
the organization whose logo appears on the card.
They are called
affinity cards because the card issuer and the
sponsoring organization co-market the card to the
organization's customers or members in hopes of
enticing them to carry the card.
What does an affinity card look like?
If you're carrying a
VISA or
MasterCard with your favorite sports team's
logo on it, you're carrying an affinity card. But
it's not just sports. Airlines have their own
affinity cards as do charities and a host of other
businesses and organizations. Even labor unions
make affinity cards available to their members.
Why does anyone bother issuing affinity cards?
It's all about the money. usually the sponsoring
organization gets a piece of the revenues that
each card generates. Also, depending upon the
arrangement, the affinity card holder may get
cash back or special discounts when they use
their affinity card to make purchases from the
sponsoring organization.
There are over 2500 different affinity cards on
the market today. Surely you'll be able to find
one that suits you to a "T". |
